FARMINGTON — A 21-year-old Layton man was sentenced Wednesday for killing his roommate in 2016.

Christopher Scott Fritz will serve at least 15 years in the Utah State Prison after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree felony murder, according to online court records.

Fritz pleaded guilty in November to shooting 24-year-old Taylor VanCamp multiple times in their Layton home on Dec. 19, 2016.

Fritz is also ordered to pay $6,606.03 plus interest in restitution, according to online court records.

At an April 2017 preliminary hearing, witnesses said Fritz and VanCamp got into an argument and began fighting. Fritz told police that after the fight, when he went into his bedroom and saw he had a black eye and bloody nose, he “snapped,” pulled a handgun out of a drawer, went to VanCamp’s room and shot him several times, according to previous Standard-Examiner reporting.

As of Thursday evening, Fritz was being held at the Davis County Jail and had not yet been transferred to the Utah State Prison. It is unclear when he will be transferred there.
